After the usual worries about the weather conditions the sun shone down on the Horsted Keynes annual fun run on the evening of Friday 21st June.
The event is organised annually by the PTA to raise funds for St Giles Primary School and this year I was proud to sponsor the event.
There are 4 events held and in total an amazing 140 children and adults ran!!
The first 3 events are short runs on the grass opposite the Green Man. Event 1 is for the younger Pre-school age children and 20 little ones entered; event 2 had 42 runners from reception, years 1 & 2 and event 3 also had 42 runners from years 3-6, well done to each and every one of them!
Event 4 is the big one! 4.1 miles, mixed road and off road terrain. 36 people entered this (38 if you count the couple who entered and ran with children in 3 wheel buggies!!) 5 of these were in the 11-16 age group. The run did a lap around the village before heading off down Church Lane, going off road down past the lakes and into Chilling Street, it then goes down over the splash and through woods to come back out onto open fields before returning into the village.
Clive Spencer was home first for the men and Sarah Webster for the ladies. Oliver Oakley and his sister Isobel came in first for the boys and girls 11-16 year olds.
Cups are given to the winner of each race, with medals for 2nd and 3rd places. A family cup was awarded to the Nicholson family for entering the most races!
Entrants came form Horsted Keynes, Haywards Heath and other local villages to join in the races and enjoy the BBQ and Bar , helping to raise an amazing £750 at this event.
