Although my home page gives a bit of information about me I thought it was time to share my full story.

I am Lisa Moore, the founder of Fit For Moore, a private Health and Fitness studio in Haywards Heath, West Sussex. We help ladies (& some gentlemen!) to get into shape, regain their confidence, strength and vitality. We don’t just focus on exercise and are not a drop in or Pay as You Go centre.  We’re also not a gym – no machines, cables, ropes or Kettlebells , we’re a personal training studio where we provide personalised solutions designed to meet your health and fitness goals. My goal is to create a family, a studio where everyone feels part of the team, where people make friends, have fun, work hard and get the results they desire. Our number one aim is to understand you and your lifestyle and when we do this then we can really help you. My team and I listen and look to inspire you, motivate you and of course make you accountable!

As it’s International Women’s Day I wanted to share my story, my journey with you all. Hopefully you’ll all understand me a bit more and maybe 1 or 2 people will resonate with my story and realise that no matter how hard things may feel if you have that courage to take a step you can change things. It’s not been easy, but I’m so pleased and proud of what I have achieved. I’m evidence that if you follow your dreams, you can make them come true.

My journey to success

I’m a 44 year old single mum with 2 young daughters and they live with me 100% of the time. I also have a beautiful mad Cocker Spaniel and I run my own business. Lots of juggling going on!!

I’ve been a fitness professional for over 25 years, starting at The Dolphin Leisure Centre in Haywards Heath inducting people into the gym.  I remember the fashion of thong leotards and tights! Thank goodness that’s gone out of fashion now.

I’ve also had a Corporate career and worked as an Account Manager looking after FTSE100 clients such as Marks & Spencer, and Pfizer (yep they make Viagara!). I used to travel round the M25 daily, go up to London and all over the place. Getting up at stupid O’clock to go to meetings. While I loved the people aspect of being in Account Management I didn’t really ‘love’ IT services, but I do, and always have loved health and fitness.

I was lucky enough to change things and not return to this life after my first daughter was born in 2005. I decided to update my qualifications and start up a Personal Training business, that way I could work around my family and have a reasonable income. It started well, and after qualifying I also trained as a Cranial Sacral Therapist ,but that’s another story. It was small business, just me doing Personal Training one to one at mine or clients homes and some local classes in the village hall. I loved it and had some great clients, some of who are still clients today. I had another daughter in 2008 but at that time life wasn’t very rosy.

My marriage was not working, and I was very unhappy, I’d lost all my confidence and things really weren’t working but I was scared and didn’t know which way to turn. I felt a failure and was stuck.

I was in a difficult relationship and I didn’t feel heard, I tried hard to fix things but nothing seemed to work and I was at my wits end. I knew it wasn’t going to work but no longer having a highly paid job how could I leave?

It was also hard because no one could see what was happening to me behind closed doors, no one really knew what was going on and I’d started to believe that everything was my fault and that I just needed to work harder and be a better person. I really wasn’t the person I am today.

How do you start again with nothing, when you feel like a nothing, when you’re so scared?

In 2011 I turned 40. For some mad reason I decided to train for the London Marathon.

With a 6 and 3 year old I don’t know how I fitted in all the training but somehow this physical and mental challenge changed something in me. Maybe it was the time and space to breathe and think on those long runs or just the realization that running 26.2 miles meant I could do anything ( well almost anything!). I am sure that taking part in this event gave me the courage to change and to leave my marriage.

So I left…. I left everything.

One Sunday morning in November I arranged for my girls to go to play at friends whilst my parents and I packed what we could and I moved in with them – I can’t thank them enough for what they did for me and my girls and I stayed for 18 months!

The problem was I felt like a failure, useless, stupid and that everyone would be judging me BUT I  knew I had to look after the girls and provide for them.

I was on my own. I didn’t have a job (as such) and couldn’t figure out how I could go back to full-time work with one child at school and the other at part-time nursery. I couldn’t afford it, mum & dad helped as much as they could but I couldn’t ask them to provide childcare at that level so I figured that Fit For Moore was the only way!

It’s been a long 4 years but boy have I learned a lot.

I learned about myself and learned a lot about business. It’s been tough and a very bumpy ride at times,  going through divorce, finding somewhere to live, dealing with financial issues, looking after my children and and all that brings with it. Trust me it’s not a nice process to go through.

However even though I had really dark times I always had my WHY. I always knew WHY I wanted and needed to do this.

I had an emotional (and obviously financial) need to make this happen – I wanted to prove that I wasn’t a Failure, that this wasn’t just ‘just a hobby’.

Why – I needed to ensure financial security for me and my girls.
Why – I needed to prove that I was worthy of success.
Why – I needed to get my confidence back and to feel better about ME and who I was.

I needed to prove to MYSELF (not anyone else) just MYSELF that I was capable, I was a nice person, that I was NOT crazy.

When clients come to me for their first consultation one of the first things that I ask them is ‘ why are you here?’ They normally answer;

“I want to lose weight, get fit and tone up”.

That’s not enough for me. Knowing WHY they want to get fit and lose weight, how they’ll feel when they reach their goal, is much more important as that FEELING, that WHY will drive them to meet their goals. If losing weight gets them into a smaller size brilliant but think about what happens when they do achieve their goal  – the magic happens. It makes them feel great, feel differently about themselves, they get their confidence back, they start to want to go out and talk to people. They start wearing different clothes, trying new things and feeling able to have their voice. Their partner or husband perhaps becomes more attentive and people start saying ‘ wow you look amazing ‘ and the wonderful thing is they finally believe them.  That’s the WHY, that’s the goal NOT the number on the scales it’s the ‘FEELING’.

I’m still developing and still learning

Over the last 12 months I set myself a personal goal to overcome a long held fear and that is ( or should I say was) Public Speaking. I organised and hosted a charity event for St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley called Midlife Mayhem on the 24th February this year, 2016 and stood up in front of over 70 people.  Scary stuff but surprisingly good fun.



This is still part of my personal journey and becoming that confident woman that I aspire to be. To not be afraid to stick my head above the parapet and say ‘ hello, this is me!” and to bring you all some inspiration and show you that having a WHY is what will get you where you want to be, to get your Mojo back!!

So ‘Hello’ International Women’s Day I am proud to be a Successful, Capable and Confident woman at last!  I know I still have lot’s to learn and a long journey ahead of me.  I’ll have tough times and bumpy roads but I also will have my ‘ WHY ‘ and that will get me to the end of my own rainbow.
